Nursery Aims
§ To provide a safe and caring environment, where children can fully develop their mental, physical and social
skills, through play activities.
§ To create a partnership between parents and Staff that ensures children make progress in their development and learning.
§ To ensure a well planned and resourced curriculum, taking children’s learning forward and offering opportunities for all to succeed, feel valued and secure in an atmosphere of care.
About the Nursery
§ Pembury School House Nursery is for children between 2 and 5 years.
§ The Nursery operates a No Smoking Policy for all Staff and visitors.
§ The Nursery provides equal opportunities for all children. We believe children have the right to grow up in an environment free from prejudice and discrimination.
§ The Nursery is registered with OFSTED for 20 children per session.
§ The Nursery is managed by a Management Committee, the details of which are available upon request.
§ The Committee meets on a regular basis, making both long-term and short-term decisions affecting the operation of the Nursery.
§ Day-to-day operation of the Nursery is undertaken by the Nursery Staff.
§ Each session of the Nursery is supervised by qualified Staff. Additional help may be provided by visiting voluntary workers and / or parents.
§ Please note, acceptance into Pembury School House Nursery does not guarantee a place at Pembury Primary School.
Opening Times
§ The Nursery year consists of 6 terms (Autumn 1+2, Spring 3+4 and Summer 5+6) totaling 38 weeks. The dates generally coincide with those in local Primary Schools, where possible.
§ The dates of each term are displayed on the Nursery Boards and circulated to parents.
§ There are 5 morning sessions per week for children aged approximately 3 to 5 years, from 08:55 to 12:10hrs, Monday to Friday inclusive. Children usually attend from 2 to 5 sessions a week, subject to availability.
§ There are 5 afternoon sessions per week for children aged approximately 2 to 3 from 13:00 to 15:30hrs. For the first 4 weeks we run shorter settling in sessions which gradually increase. Generally, the sessions for children starting in September are Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. The sessions for children starting in January are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. These younger children usually attend 2 sessions a week with a maximum of 12 children in the group.
Admissions Policy
Pembury School House Nursery is open to all pre-school children in the community. In the event of the Nursery being over subscribed, the following system for accepting children will operate.
- Children with special educational needs.
- Children in care.
- Length of time on the waiting list.
- Siblings already attending the Nursery.
- The vicinity of the home to the Nursery.
§ Priority will be given to older children.
§ Children who have attended the afternoon sessions will be given priority when allocating places for the morning sessions.
Special Educational Needs/ Disability
This Nursery provides an environment in which all children are supported to reach their full potential.
§ Our designated Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Jude Sheppard.
§ Our inclusive Admissions Policy ensures equality of access and opportunity.
§ Staff work closely with parents of children with SEN / disabilities, to create and maintain a positive partnership and parents are informed at all stages of the assessment, planning, provision and review of their child's education and development.
§ The Nursery liaise with other professionals involved with children with SEN / disabilities and their families, including transfer arrangements to other settings and schools.
§ A broad and balanced curriculum for all children is provided. A system of planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reviewing of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), for children with SEN / disabilities is used.
§ Resources (human and financial) are provided to implement our SEN / Disability Policy.
§ In-service training for practitioners and volunteers is provided.
